Girlfriends

It's been a year of joy (Feb 9th) and tragedies (Feb 21st post), a month of birthdays (mine + some) and girlfriends (Nov 19th post), and a week with old souls who know me and love me anyway. I never thought when I was in my 20’s that I’d ever spend a weekend like the past one. I figured when girls whose ages finally overshot their bra sizes got together that they’d do girly things or old lady things, anything other than go to sports bars & grills, watch football, scratch their nuts, laugh at their own farts, and play in the leaves. A weekend of margaritas probably helped, but color my ass surprised and happy just the same to find out differently.

Two buddies from my past visited me in my new home town from Friday through Sunday. CJ is our reserved, if irreverent, intellectual. I still can’t believe we talked her into romping in the leaves. Holly is our Scarlet O’Hara photographer who sees the good in places some of us don’t dare look.

Somehow, together, we managed to forget our ages, the aches and pains of growing older, and we reclaimed a bit of our childhood…the part that doesn’t dwell in any moment but the present. Fashion took a backseat to comfort, and we laughed until our sides nearly split.
We talked until late, woke up early, sipped coffee and rubbed sore spots on our shoulders, debated politics, blasted infidels, and swore we’d do this again as soon as we could.

I love my girlfriends. Have a weekend planned with Gretchen already. *rubbing hands gleefully*

Speaking of Gretchen, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

More photos coming in a day or two.

I am fortunate to be a part of a Christmas party that Samhain Publishing is throwing. Be checking editor Angie's blog periodically for a chance to win a Kindle and some other really kewl prizes.

http://nicemommy-evileditor.com/blog/

Author Mandy Roth did the pretty pre-promo graphic to the left for those of us participating. She does a good job, huh? THANKS, MANDY!

The contest opens December 1st, and you can enter once for each of the two contests to win a Kindle by visiting the participating authors' websites and listing the title of their book that is part of the give-away. Mine will be La Bella Luna. *big grin* I rather like that book.

I even have my own little graphic, of course, with the book's cover so that treasure hunters can list it on their entry form for the contest.

Now if I can just remember how to post the sucker on my blog in the template so searchers can find it - lol.
That's what I get for not blogging more often. I'd like to say that it's because I'm too busy writing, but everyone who knows me will know that's a huge fib.
HOWEVER...that said...Gretchen has been kicking my ass, so I've been reworking something that I've sat on for many moons (and no, it's not the full moon I sit on). It's a book dear to my heart...another Bobbie Cole book, a mainstream, and...well, I hope to have it ready to send before the end of the month. Just not sure where I'm sending her, but I'll have more info about the book at a later date.
Speaking of Gretchen...I had such a great time with her this past weekend. We attended a Cinema Suites movie. Saw the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, on Saturday night while sipping margaritas and having a nice, big dinner, reclining in monstrous, cushy seats. (Ha - just went to her blog and saw that she's mentioned a bit about this experience with the promise of telling readers more about it later. It WAS a lot of fun. I've never done anything like it before.)
Sunday morning we hit a breakfast place called First Watch that served the best omelets and pancakes imaginable. - I had the pumpkin while she had the cranberry nut (I think).
More later.

Alone Time

Friday, November 14, 2008 – 12:55 am

Sitting alone, television on, laptop plugged in living room, pups at my feet or beside me – depending upon how needy or cold they become. Eyes grow weary, but I don’t want to fall asleep. Waiting for The Kids to tell me they’ve landed safely in Oklahoma, feet on the ground, Lola intact. To tell me that all is well. Does this feeling ever go away? I don’t think it does.

At midnight, I started a load of dishes in the dishwasher. Prior to that, I washed every stray article of clothing in the house. Tomorrow I tackle the hall linen closet, the bathroom, The Kids’ room, then the entry closet by the front door. Am supposed to have company (Gretchen) on Saturday, but I don’t think this is for her. Somehow, the cleaning, airing, washing is in preparation for when my children come home. Isn’t that bizarre?

I have all of these plans to eat right, take my meds, walk the dogs, and write. Yet all I’ve done is play Freecell, watch true crime, and scrub down the house in every way I can. Granted, I’ve only been alone four hours. *smirk* Just think. Only eight more days of this kind of bliss.

I’m drawing the line at raking the yard. Somehow, wet, dead leaves don’t appeal to me much this year. Probably because I don’t fancy playing in them as I did last year.

I feel the need for a pedicure and ice-cream. Maybe if I clean the toilet, the feeling will go away. Doubt it, but it’s worth a shot.
Last thing my daughter-in-law said to me before she left was "Be good." Then it was as if she realized who she was talking to and added..."To yourself."
I believe I will.

Wrath of God?

Ever wondered about those folks who paint pictures of a crucified Christ in 3-D, with shit coming out of the man's forehead or beard? All I gotta say is that they must have the most fucked up dreams of anyone on the planet if they see dead people with open eyes superimposed upon their skulls.

How about those people who seem to think they'll have no peace unless they do the bidding of someone who LOVES them enough to wake them up with something like this?

Love me like this again, Angie, and I'm flying to Sweden to kick the shit out of you.

Have I mentioned that I fucking hate junk mail, FORWARDS? Who in their right mind sends anything, supposedly with God's blessing and a curse attached simultaneously, to 'good friends' or everyone in their address book, ANYWAY, especially if they haven't even spoken to them in years? (And people wonder why the churches aren't full. George Carlin's "but He LOVES YOU" skit comes to mind.)

I have like 3 *friends* who do this then wonder why the hell I don't talk to them.

This particular sentiment was:

The President of Argentina received this picture and called it "junk mail",
8 days later his son died. A man received this picture & immediately
sent out copies..his surprise was winning the lottery. Alberto Martinez received this picture, gave it to his secretary to make copies but they
forgot to distribute them..She lost her job & he lost his family. This
picture is miraculous & sacred. Forward to 10 people.

It amazes me that anyone would knock on someone's door, and first thing out of their mouth would be "I curse you". It's even more amazing that they'd think for one second that anyone would embrace their god (and I use that with lower case for a reason) or their religion out of FEAR instead of LOVE.

Ever consider that the president of Argentina's son might have died anyway or that the man who sent out this picture would have won the lottery anyway? (And last time I checked, the Christian God frowned upon gambling.) How about ole Alberto Martinez and his secretary? If he's relying on his secretary - anyone at all - to cover his ass with God, he's in deep shit to begin with. Maybe he lost his family because he spent more time reading emails or photocopying with the secretary than he did taking Little Alberto to baseball games. Maybe she lost her job because God loved her enough to get her out of that relationship with an obsessive compulsive ass who left his salvation or good will in her hands.

Forward to 10 people is the part that slays me. If you can't understand the meaning of one-syllable words, I won't even attempt explaining the word superstition to you.

And for what it's worth, the first time I received this, home computers had just been invented - that's how long it's been around.

Okay, bitching completed. Just had to wreck somebody else's day.

I gotta take out the trash.

Men With Long Poles

October was a long but nice month. I had to extend the class I was teaching (How To Write An Erotic Romance) until Monday, though - didn't get everything critiqued. The class didn't seem to mind.

Tree trimmers spent one entire afternoon here, topping off trees, whacking off dead branches and putting them through the wood chipper. I can't see a wood chipper that I don't think of one of my favorite all time movies...FARGO. Lord, that was funny.

Daughter-in-law and I celebrated our birthdays (hers was Halloween, mine's this coming Friday). #1 Son took us to Cinzetti's, an all-you-can-eat Italian buffet. I've never seen so much food, which was delicious. The service and atmosphere were amazing - big Tuscan villa, 14 food stations. Our waiter, James, saw the birthday cards on the table and asked (no, begged) to make us a cake. He and another waiter came back a few minutes later with a big slab of chocolate cake in a yummy sauce, with 2 candles, which he lit. They sang "Happy Birthday" to us. *sigh* Thanks to Carol Lynne for suggesting the place.

Back to my class. I'm confident that we'll be seeing the likes of Eve Summers, Gianno Bruno, Letty James, Mary Guida, Moria Drake, and Whitney Stiles. (There are others, too, but those are the first names that come to mind.) Those ladies were a lot of fun this past month. I even got a bit of fan mail (fan male?) from one husband. The last creative exercise was a 2-3 pager called "For HIS Pleasure" (no vaginas allowed). I'm sure that sparked some interest in their bedrooms if the writers did much research - lol.

Hope all of you are safe, warm, and happy. Sorry I've been out of touch and haven't kept up my own blog, much less visited yours. Just got busy teaching is all. Hope to bug the hell out of some of you now that I've caught my breath.

~ Sunny

And the birthdays dinner sounded great too (invite me next time, my birthday isn't in October but I Love Italian food!)

Thanks, girlfriend. We did have fun in that class. (

As for birthday dinner...Not sure, but I think I enjoyed sipping that mocha cappuccino at the end of the meal as much if not better than I enjoyed the umpteen courses of food. And of course you are invited - at ANY time. What I wouldn't give to meet you!

I just gave away a paper copy of one of your books that I snagged last week - had a writers' meeting about a mile from where I live. Raelene was here...and yours was one of the books she sent as prizes.

So when IS your birhtday? *grin*
