Girlfriends

It's been a year of joy (Feb 9th) and tragedies (Feb 21st post), a month of birthdays (mine + some) and girlfriends (Nov 19th post), and a week with old souls who know me and love me anyway. I never thought when I was in my 20’s that I’d ever spend a weekend like the past one. I figured when girls whose ages finally overshot their bra sizes got together that they’d do girly things or old lady things, anything other than go to sports bars & grills, watch football, scratch their nuts, laugh at their own farts, and play in the leaves. A weekend of margaritas probably helped, but color my ass surprised and happy just the same to find out differently.

Two buddies from my past visited me in my new home town from Friday through Sunday. CJ is our reserved, if irreverent, intellectual. I still can’t believe we talked her into romping in the leaves. Holly is our Scarlet O’Hara photographer who sees the good in places some of us don’t dare look.

Somehow, together, we managed to forget our ages, the aches and pains of growing older, and we reclaimed a bit of our childhood…the part that doesn’t dwell in any moment but the present. Fashion took a backseat to comfort, and we laughed until our sides nearly split.
We talked until late, woke up early, sipped coffee and rubbed sore spots on our shoulders, debated politics, blasted infidels, and swore we’d do this again as soon as we could.

I love my girlfriends. Have a weekend planned with Gretchen already. *rubbing hands gleefully*

Speaking of Gretchen, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

More photos coming in a day or two.

I love it you Sunny woman. Great blog entry. I envy your weekend. Can hardly wait to do one of my own, but will probably have to wait for our MARA retreat.
