Happy Leap Day - 2/29/08

What’s Goin’ On

Alex & I have a novella, Hit and Miss, debuting next month with Total ebound Books. This short story is contemporary with light bondage and BDSM. You know me and Lex – it’s humorous, with a hapless heroine and hero who get themselves into hot water then have to bail themselves out…this time with Cupid’s help, literally…Cupid.

Spies, Lies, & Duct Tape seems to be doing well. This is a romantic suspense published by Ellora’s Cave that debuted in January. Read an excerpt

A review here by WitchGiggles on Spies, Lies, & Duct Tape: This story contains some beautifully written sex scenes, while also describing a brutal sexual assault, graphic violence and unfortunately From my perspective an all too realistic look at our world today. It takes the attention from page one and keeps it to the last page with you rooting for "both" women to the very end. A great, entertaining read. – THANKS, WITCHGIGGLES!!!

Haven’t received my first paycheck from Who’s Your Daddy, but we’ve (this was an anthology) received some fabulous reviews. Romance Junkies says this: Each story is unique, witty and told with enough heat and emotional tone to keep readers engrossed in the pages. An insightful thought-provoking read and a wonderful book to add to your keeper file. THANK YOU, CHRISSY!

A review I must’ve missed, this one from Euro Reviews:

Traveling from modern day Las Vegas, Nevada into an ancient world, Nora finds herself in an unusual predicament. While in Las Vegas, she’s kidnapped and drugged by Ken Taylor, an archaeologist. She also learns the hard way that he can’t drive.Nora and Ken, whose real name turns out to be Khuamen, nephew of Senmut, go for a trip through time. How that turns out is a fascinating tale. A journey not to be missed by either participant.
* * *
Lyn Cash’s The Promise: Stream of Time is a wonderful read and superbly written. Nora is as colorful as her grandmother Mimi White. Meeting her lover, Khuamen, and keeping the history of Egypt from altering. Stream of Time is a spicy and hot novel. I hope readers enjoy Stream of Time as much as I did. ~ Reviewer: Lydia

Thanks, Lydia!

What else is goin' on...

I could get REALLY pissed off at Alex if I didn't love her so much and if she wasn't RIGHT like 99.99% of the time. As you know if you've read here much, I had a death in the family a couple of weeks ago. I also have a wedding to plan - it's friggin' WINTER and we're about to have MORE SNOW, which really puts me in a great mood. And I'm trying to get some writing done while teaching (Thank GOD for students this month - they've been GREAT and I have had a blast with them).

So Lex writes and says "We have 2 more days before we turn in this manuscript to Ellora's Cave for that contest."

This is a joint effort, and she's pretty much done her part and a good deal of mine. So I say okay - I'll write this sex scene we've both been avoiding. I write it. Lex writes back. "Uh, Sunny...that's not a sex scene."

What? She got off, didn't she? What do you mean it's not a sex scene?

"Well, the two of them haven't exactly copulated."

Well, damn. Back to the freakin' drawing board.

I send the rewrites back to her, along with a very cranky phone call. "The bitch is laid, played, screwed, all but tattooed. I've stuck everything in her that I can come up with, and she's had at least 3 or 4 orgasms by last count, so I consider her LAID."

We sent the manuscript off to Nick this morning, and Lex is still speaking to me.

All but tattooed for sure...but is she happy? Teehee. I love the cartoon and I admire how focussed and producive you are. I can't even manage to stay committed to my current cup of coffee nevermind a WiP. You rock.

You are the parent of small children and still get meals together on time. You are MY hero - LOL.

Thanks, though. I shall take and wallow in whatever props I can get this month.

ROFL It's a good thing she loves me or she'd kick my butt. Mind you, she did know I was an organizing baggage before we went into this. lol And this story rocks. That was one damned hot scene Lyn wrote. Still fanning myself here.

You forgot "blewed". '-) Screwed, blewed and tattooed. hahaha. Your posts make me giggle, so do our talks.

Lyn is very focused on her career, as is Alex and I adore them both--they also have a blast doing what they do. Lyn loves a red pen and she an Lex are two peas in a pod.

Rock on, ladies.

You guys are a riot -
Love Lex's writing, and Lyn is one of my favorite authors. I love the reviews - congrats!!
I know what deadlines look like - I have one Glaring at me right now. I'm trying to ignore it. It's vacation here, and after a month of balmy, spring weather, it's supposed to snow. It will be our first snow fall of the year!
Brrrrr! My house is old & Drafty.

Heather Rae, you're so good for me - THANKS! (Ditto to Sam)

Sam, your first snowfall of the year, as in 2008 or as in this winter??? Jealous that you've had that month of balmy weather - it's been so friggin' cold in the Midwest this year. Doesn't normally bother me - I like seasonal changes - but I am READY for this winter to be over.

I see my blogpost is old - lol - need to update it tonight or tomorrow. Not like Janet doesn't send me plenty to use. *grin*

while I'm celebrating Lee's life...

He was quite the wood carver. Thought I'd share some of his carvings with you. The Indian is museum quality - alas, his last project, unfinished. One of our relatives was a carver and a sculptor who had works at the Smithsonian. I've always thought my brother was just as good.

I may have enlarged it (camera phone, not a digital of any quality, in other words) too much.

The first to the left is a "love spoon" and beside it is a coyote carved into the outline of a leaf - all out of bark or wood.

Faces carved into trees.

There's a buffalo he carved onto a flat surface just in front of the lamp, but I didn't get a good close-up of it. To the far upper left is a standing bear.
* * *
Anyway, just thought I'd share. I know I've mentioned him before and that he carved, so while he's on my mind...I'll share.

These are absolutely gorgeous and you're right, he should've been in the Smithsonian.

As someone who lives with a hunter, I'm sure it was one of the highlights of his life.

I can't help but wonder if maybe God needed Lee to do some sculptures in Heaven. They always say God takes you when he needs you. May you find some comfort in that. ILY

celebrating life

For those who weren't aware, I was gone the past several days because of a death in the family. My only sibling, a younger brother, passed away on Valentine's Day. Lots of family drama, two funerals in two different states, heartache, and sadness for me, our parents, and brother's immediate family, but I'm home, and I can still celebrate his wonderful life. Just hurts right now.

Thanks for the concern, those of you who knew what had happened. I'll get back on track and have something to post in a day or two.

Right now I'm teaching an online class for HOD on writing confessions, and I have some marvelous, talented people in there who are keeping me busy. *big grin* I am catching up on reading posts, trying to get some lessons in there to supplement what my moderators have posted, and it'll be a couple of days before I can answer all my email, so ya'll bear with me.

Have a great week. It's snowing like crazy here - sleet, snow, rain, hail, you name it - we've had it lately.

God bless, little brother. I'll always love and miss you.

[Sidenote: Lee snagged a record buck - this is a photo - and with the deer came an award of sorts. The place where he captured it lets the record breakers bury a rock with their name on it. His is near the entrance...I just can't think of the name of the place. I'm not a hunter myself, but hunting was one of my brother's many passions. And I loved the photo of him, so I'm posting it.]

I gotta change this blog post to something else and move on tomorrow. Don't want to drag anyone down with it - just had to post a memorial to him. :)

friendship funnies

1. When you are sad -- I will help you get drunk and plot revenge against the sorry bastard who made you sad.
2. When you are blue -- I will try to dislodge whatever is choking you.
3. When you smile -- I will know you are plotting something that I must be involved in.
4. When you are scared -- I will rag on you about it every chance I get.
5. When you are worried -- I will tell you horrible stories about how much worse it could be until you quit whining.
6. When you are confused -- I will use little words.
7. When you are sick -- Stay the hell away from me until you are well again. I don't want whatever you have.
8. When you fall -- I will point and laugh at your clumsy ass.

This is my oath..... I pledge it to the end. "Why?" you may ask - "because you are my friend".

Friendship is like peeing your pants, everyone can see it, but only you can feel the true warmth.

Remind me, ya'll, if I am sick, whiny, sad, scared, or blue, and I'll immediately feel better if I know this is what's coming from you. - That 1st one was from Liz in Wichita Falls.

Here's another funny, this one from Cousin Shel':

THE TWELVE STEPS FOR RECOVERING GENEALOGISTS
1. I admit that I am powerless over my gedcom and that my life has become unmanageable.
2. I believe that there is a greater power other than genealogy and that it will restore sanity to my life.
3. I have made a decision to turn my life over to non genealogists and hope that they will understand me.
4. I have admitted to myself and other genealogists that I am addicted to my obituary files.
5. I vow to no longer discuss "dead people" with my few remaining friends in hopes that they will remain my friends.
6. I promise to take photographs of things other than tombstones.
7. My only source of reading material will no longer be census, wills, death certificates and obituaries.
8. I will not spend family vacations in out-of-state libraries and courthouses.
9. Family picnics will no longer be held in cemeteries.
10. My family will no longer be referred to as "the live ones."
11. My time spent on the Internet will be limited to sites other than Rootsweb.com, GenForum.com and MyGenealogy.com.
12. I will carry these messages to other genealogists and practice these principles every day.
........author unknown
P.S........Don't think you ever recover from this addiction

This 12 Step Program lasts a lifetime.

***That said, I'll be offline for a few days. Hugs to all of you who are sweet, bugs to those of you who don't like cutsie stuff.*** See ya on the flip side.

Thanks for thinking of me. Hope you and the writers have fun this week. Looks like I'll ge gone a day longer than planned.

Writing 101 - Advances on ebooks

Someone recently asked me about advances, and to the best of my knowledge, there are 2 ebook publishers who offer these - Samhain (at least they used to) for $100, unless that's dropped, and Red Sage Publishing. RSP's advances depend upon the length of the book - anywhere from $50 or $100 to $250 to $500, I think. I 'll ASK their editors to come in and let you know for sure, and I'll post their responses in red on the main blog post - this one - as addendums.

If anyone else knows of others who offer advances, please advise.

As for advances on other publications, this gal has always kept up with the times, but it says on her website that it was last updated in 2006. I have the writers' info from the last RWA conference I attended, but THAT was 2006 as well. I'll see if I can find more current info.

http://www.karenafox.com/money.htm

The book cover has nothing to do with advances, unless you want to segue into my giving you an advance peek at the cover - lol. Alexis and I penned a short tale together for a new series called "Sexy Mythconceptions" - and this is our first cover. Debuts next month.

The Kids Are Engaged

Nothing like announcing it on the internet that I adore my son and daughter-in-law to be. The dress is here, the veil, the wedding rings purchased. She's told her mother, so I guess it's okay if I tell my friends and fellow writers - hehehe. No date selected yet. The groom has to have his ring re-sized, and it'll take up to 6 weeks. The Kid popped the question quite romantically and on my friend Lee's birthday.
* * *
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEE!!!!!!
* * *
I finally have a pub date for the novel Knights & White Satin - August 1st. Yeah, I know - it's a bit late, but...it is what it is, and hopefully readers will think it's well worth the wait. I love this book!
* * *
Sold an older woman, younger male novella to EC - I do suck at titles, though, so as soon as that's set, editor says he'll send contract. This one's pub date is June 12th.
* * *
Won't be home tonight, though, if you write. Spending a girls' night with Carol and Rhonda, munching sub sandwiches, probably watching movies or playing cards, so The Kids can have jungle sex or just stare at one another without anyone else in the house.

Ya'll have a good weekend.

Oh god...I can't imagine my kids ever being old enough to have Jungle Sex or any other kind of sex.

That's great that they are getting married and all....but sex? No. Sort of like the way I couldn't imagine my parents ever having sex.

At 5:21 PM, Blogger Bobbie (Sunny) Cole said...

...which is precisely why I wanted out of the house, Trish - lol.

Now. That said. They didn't do anything I couldn't have stuck around for. They went to dinner at Chili's to celebrate the engagement then went to Wal-Mart for supplies, rented some movies and watched them, fell asleep in each other's arms, and woke up to clean the house.

They thought I'd bring Carol in; otherwise, they probably wouldn't have worked so hard. I just forgot to ask Carol if she wanted to come in and see the ring. - doh

Funnies From Janet

How times change: TAKING A WOMAN TO BED

What is the difference between girls/woman Aged: 8, 18, 28, 38, 48, 58. 68, and 78?

At 8 -- You take her to bed and tell her a story.

At 18 -- You tell her a story and take her to bed.

At 28 -- You don't need to tell her a story to take her to bed.

At 38 -- She tells you a story and takes you to bed.

At 48 -- She tells you a story to avoid going to bed.

At 58 -- You stay in bed to avoid her story.

At 68 -- If you take her to bed, that'll be a story!

At 78 -- What story??? What bed??? Who the hell are you???

Come again? A CONDOM DRESS?!

While shopping in a food store, two nuns happened to pass by the beer, wine and liquor section. One asked the other if she would like a beer. The second nun answered that, indeed, it would be very nice to have one, but that she would feel uncomfortable about purchasing it.

The first nun replied that she would handle that without a problem. She picked up a six- pack and took it to the cashier. The cashier had a surprised look so the nun said, "This is for washing our hair."

Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter and put a package of pretzel sticks in the bag with the beer. "The curlers are on me.
